The KCSG Goalkeeping Staff have developed a challenging curriculum exclusively for the goalkeepers at Kansas City Scott Gallagher. The staff comes together with diverse backgrounds of knowledge and experiences.  This curriculum uses the game as the beginning reference for training and then emphasizes the goalkeepers' basic action needs in order to compete at any level. From the time the player enters the program at 9v9 to the time they graduate, players are exposed to the same objective training references to help them through the development process. Our most important goal is to make each one of these players into the best goalkeepers they can be, uphold the KCSG Shield Values, and provide a safe, healthy training environment.

KCSG Juniors and 7v7 Goalkeepers

At this level of development, we do not think it is best for the player to focus large amounts of training on goalkeeping.  Our youngest players are still physically developing, and we want them to fall in love with the game.  We want these KCSG players to rotate in goal and also enjoy playing on the field too.  The goalkeeping staff will consult with the team staff coaches to identify players showing an interest in goalkeeping and monitor their progress.

KCSG 9v9 Program

This introductory program provides the player with the basics of goalkeeping. Positioning, body shape, handling, distribution, as well as introducing high balls, point blank, and diving are all covered at this age of development..

MO and KS Elite/Premier Goalkeeping (11v11)

These training sessions build on the skills introduced in GK 101 and are built around the age groups playing in the 11v11 platform.  The sessions are regionalized in order to create smaller training groups, increase the number of repetitions, and provide more opportunities for our goalkeepers to train closer to home.  The training will continue to develop the basic actions of the goalkeeper and introduce more situational training for the goalkeepers like shutting down 1v1 situations, how to handle high balls in traffic, punching and parrying away, as well as continuing to emphasize the goalkeepers responsibilities regarding handling, distribution, decision making, etc.

Men’s and Women’s ECNL, NPL, and NL Goalkeeping (11v11)

These sessions focus on our top tier goalkeepers and build on all of the aforementioned curriculum but then incorporate more challenging situational play. Goalkeepers are required to work competently using all of the basic goalkeeper actions (footwork, body shape, foot skills, handling, catching, point blank, dealing with 1v1s and all aspects of diving). Goalkeepers train using more game related situations in this environment, and are expected to attend all sessions.
